How to Get Free WiFi Tether Mobile Hotspot on Droid X!
For those of you who want to get free wifi tether like the Verizon Mobile Hotspot but for free, you can do it by rooting your Droid X then installing the Android WiFi tether app.
How to Get Free WiFi Tether Mobile Hotspot on Droid X!
1. Root your Droid X.
2. Browse to the Android WiFi Tether download page and download the latest .apk file.
3. Install the app and open the Android WiFi Tether app.
4. Make sure to set your app so “WiFi encryption” is enabled. I’ve found that if it’s not enabled the wifi tether app will not work.
5. Enjoy free wifi Mobile Hotspot on your Droid X. Of course, the Verizon Mobile Hotspot app is a bit better as it’s a full “wifi” feature while the Android WiFi Tether works in “ad-hoc” mode.

I’m thinking about getting a droid x and following in your foot steps. Important question though! Has it been a month since you rooted and tethered? Has verizon caught onto this and charged you up the wazoo?

Does the Verizon service contract, or phone rebate/discount contract, forbid you to use the free tethering app?

For the record, the latest version of the google wifi tether app does allow multiple devices to be actively paired and utilizing the network at a time (I connected to two laptops and an iPhone simultaneously.)

The newest version of Android Tether allows the Droid X to use infrastructure mode instead of ad-holic.
